Long-range disassortative correlations in generic random trees.

We explicitly calculate the distance dependent correlation functions in a maximal entropy ensemble of random trees. We show that correlations remain disassortative at all distances and vanish only as a second inverse power of the distance. We discuss in detail the example of scale-free trees where the diverging second moment of the degree distribution leads to some interesting phenomena.

Wave Propagation in Random Waveguides with Long-Range Correlations

In this paper we consider an acoustic waveguide with random fluctuations of its sound speed profile. These random perturbations are assumed to have long-range correlation properties. In waveguides a monochromatic wave can be decomposed in propagating modes and evanescent modes, and the random perturbation couples all these modes. Using asymptotic analysis of the modecoupling mechanism we give a...

Entropy and long-range correlations in random symbolic sequences

The goal of this paper is to develop an estimate for the entropy of random long-range correlated symbolic sequences with elements belonging to a finite alphabet. As a plausible model, we use the high-order additive stationary ergodic Markov chain. Supposing that the correlations between random elements of the chain are weak we express the differential entropy of the sequence by means of the sym...

Parallel Random Number Generation: Long-Range Correlations Among Multiple Processors

We use an empirical study based on simple Monte Carlo integrations to exhibit the well known long-range correlations between linear congruential random numbers. In contrast to former studies, our long-range correlation test is carried out to asses more than only two parallel streams. The results show that critical distances derived from earlier papers have to be updated. In addition we performe...

Quantifying long-range correlations in complex networks beyond nearest neighbors

We propose a fluctuation analysis to quantify spatial correlations in complex networks. The approach considers the sequences of degrees along shortest paths in the networks and quantifies the fluctuations in analogy to time series. In this work, the Barabasi-Albert (BA) model, the Cayley tree at the percolation transition, a fractal network model, and examples of real-world networks are studied...
